Letter from The President

A Message from the President of the Marengo Park District
From soccer fields to volleyball courts, senior games to high-intensity interval training, scenic park strolls to a state-of-the-art fitness center, the Marengo Park District truly provides something for everyone. Whether you’re enjoying a round of disc golf, attending a theatrical performance, or participating in family events, seasonal camps, and workouts at our fitness center, we welcome you to explore all we have to offer. The Marengo Park District proudly continues construction of the Venue in the Park, an outdoor multi-use facility for our community funded by a $600,000 zero-match OSLAD grant and capital improvement funds. This exciting project will include an amphitheater for performances and gatherings, sand volleyball courts, bocce ball, walking trails, concession stand, and many other
features. The project will help expand our recreational offerings and enhance our community
space. The Venue in the Park is enhanced by the pickleball and basketball courts that opened in summer 2023. These Projects would not be possible without the grant money awarded to the Park District in cooperation with State Senator Dave Syverson and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
As President, I am proud to work with our dedicated staff and Board of Commissioners to ensure the Marengo Park District serves our community with excellence. Fiscal responsibility remains a top priority, and we remain committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. In the past 6 years, we have restructured aging bonds, allowing us to take advantage of lower interest rates, and we paid off all outstanding commercial loans. We continually look at creative ways to cut unnecessary expenses and pursue alternative revenue sources to enhance our facilities and programs without additional burdens on taxpayers. We recently implemented a comprehensive Board Policy Manual to guide our actions with transparency, accountability, and long-term vision. This “living document” ensures we remain focused on delivering exceptional services while upholding the trust of our community. Your feedback and involvement are vital to our success. We encourage you to share your ideas and suggestions as we work together to make the Marengo Park District a model of fiscal responsibility, community engagement, and recreational excellence.
Together, as a team, we will continue this journey of making The Marengo Park District the best resource for our patrons, while honoring our commitment to sound financial stewardship and the responsible use of the district’s tax dollars.
Sincerely,
Marty Mohr
President, Marengo Park District
